Sponsored by: Legacy at the Fairways

Many health care providers learned in their youth to abide by the credo of the Golden Rule- "do to others what you would like to be done to you". As our population ages and becomes increasingly diverse, rigid adherence to this rule can create problems in communication and treatment preferences. Culturally appropriate care incorporates knowledge of practices, traditions and values that have been shown to improve both health outcomes and patient satisfaction. Small, thoughtful changes by culturally competent individuals in our health care system can yield tremendous benefits.
