There are several precautions requiring attention at all times:
- BEFORE OPENING DOORS; OTHERWISE X-RAY POWER WILL SHUT DOWN!
Figure 4 X-ray console showing radiation control and safety buttons for manual shutter and door opening – door open light is normally off and blinks when activated.
Always push the DOOR button (See Figure 4) before opening the Radiation Enclosure Doors. Pushing the DOOR button causes the button to Light and Blink, indicating it is Safe to Open the doors.
The DOOR button is a safety feature. The doors are connected to interlocks that when tripped, will cause the X-Ray power to shut down. Do not be alarmed if the X-ray power shuts down. Follow the Power-Up After Safety Shut Down below.
OR X-RAY POWER WILL SHUT DOWN!
Shutting the DOORS requires aligning the central door so the two RED circles are vertically adjacent to each other with the inner door fully to the left and the outer door fully to the right – see Figure 1. It is easiest to align the center door first and close the outer door last.
POWER-UP AFTER SAFETY SHUT DOWN
If the X-ray power shuts down because you goofed, press the DOOR button (Figure 3), then Press the RESET Button (under STATE), and then the ON button under X-RAY on the Console. This will reactivate the X-RAY generator power. The Red X-ray indicator lamp on the panel will illuminate. After several seconds the kV meter will rise to 20 kV and the mA meter to 2 mA. These two values are the minimum kV and mA values for operating an X-ray tube. If the X-RAY ON button is re-engaged immediately after the power shut-down, slow aging of the X-ay tube is not required, however, follow the same order as in tube aging: increase the Tube Voltage to 46 kV, followed by increasing the Tube Current to 40 mA.
