Chapter 2

Setting Up Dial via Office Features

Overview of Dial via Office and Related Calling Features

Overview of Dial via Office and Related Calling Features

The Dial via Office feature allows users to make work calls from their mobile phone that appear to the called party to come from their desk phone number. Dial via Office calls can also be less expensive than calls to the same number that are dialed directly using the mobile voice network. The DVO optimization settings for toll reduction feature, introduced in Cisco Unified Communications Manager Release 8.5, offers increased flexibility in setting up Dial via Office calling for potentially greater savings in toll charges.

The Mobile Connect feature allows users to receive work calls at their mobile number.

Calls that are connected using Dial via Office and Mobile Connect are anchored in Cisco Unified Communications Manager, which enables support for other features. Cisco Unified Communications Manager features include the ability to do the following:

Move active, anchored calls between the mobile phone and desk phone Transfer a call to another phone Add more users to a call Park (temporarily store) a call to pick it up on another phone Hold and resume a call

If users also have Nokia Call Connect for Cisco installed on the mobile phone and they exit the corporate Wi-Fi network, the Cisco Unified Communications Manager can hand off the call to Cisco Mobile. Nokia Call Connect for Cisco automatically hands off an in-progress VoIP call to the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) network when the signal strength falls below a threshold set up in that client.

Meet System Requirements

Verify that your release of Cisco Unified Communications Manager supports Dial via Office. See the System Requirements in the Release Notes at h t t p : / / w w w . c i s c o . c o m / e n / U S / p r o d u c t s / p s 7 2 7 1 / p r o d _ r e l e a s e _ n o t e s _ l i s t . h t m l .

About Nokia Call Connect for Cisco Coresiding with Cisco Mobile on a Device

If users have both Nokia Call Connect for Cisco and Cisco Mobile on their phone, they can make VoIP calls using Nokia Call Connect for Cisco when the Wi-Fi signal is strong and Dial via Office calls using Cisco Mobile when voice quality over VoIP is inadequate. In addition, Nokia Call Connect for Cisco automatically hands off an in-progress VoIP call to the GSM network when the signal strength falls below a threshold that is set up in that client. If Cisco Mobile is registered to Cisco Unified Communications Manager, the call may be converted seamlessly and automatically to a Mobile Connect call. In this case, mid-call features are available as with any call that is anchored in Cisco Unified Communications Manager.

For information about setting up Nokia Call Connect for Cisco, see the Nokia Call Connect for Cisco documentation.
