Todd Jones ( Jimmy Diaz's third student to achieve black belt) founded the University of Florida MooDukKwan program through the University's intramural department in the fall of 1975. Mr. Jones began a program for university students that grew from 10 original members to over 150 members by 1980. Mr. Jones was a nationally ranked competitor who held state-wide ranking in forms, fighting and weapons before retiring to complete a Master's degree in Business Administration at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He holds 3rd degree black belts in Aikido, Kendo, and Iaido and a 6th degree black belt in MooDukKwan.
1.The AMS has introduced thousands of people to martial arts, thereby increasing their self-confidence, health, and awareness.
2.Mr. Jones founded the UF Fighting Gator Karate Team, the first intercollegiate karate team at the University of Florida, which ultimately brought national championship status to UF.
3.The Florida Black Belt Association (FBBA), the first sanctioning body for the administration of light contact karate tournaments on a state-wide basis, was founded. -- Mr. Jones wrote the official FBBA tournament Rules and authored the FBBA Constitution and By-laws. He served as Registrar, Special Advisor to the President, Rules Committee Chairman, Legislative Committee member and was an Executive Committee member.
4.The AMS organized the only tournaments for charity ever conducted at the University of Florida. Sizable contributions were made to the American Cancer Society and the Ronald McDonald House.
5. Demonstrations and seminars have been conducted for virtually every dormitory on campus.
6.We have taught classes in women's self-defense and personal protection held as a leisure course and taught by female black belt instructors.
7.Mr. Jones and over 30 other students have attained state and national championship status since 1979.
1.Miami MooDukKwan has sister university programs at the University of Florida, University of Central Florida, University of Hawaii, as well as commercial schools in Boca Raton, Tampa, and Key Largo. All of these programs are operated and managed by University of Florida alumni. Programs have also been started in several other countries.
2.This is a martial discipline with an impeccable safety record. The AMS stresses character development and technical excellence and implements state of the art methods to instruct its students.
