require you to do or try the same job a second time.

6.DON'T GO TO THE GROUND WITH AN ASSAILANT.  Most brawls end up on the floor so watch for the grappling advance.  Once you go to the ground with him, you are at an instant disadvantage technique-wise, as well as having removed any chance of immediate mobile escape.  If a second attacker is present or shows up, the two of them will eat your lunch!

Don't use your bare hands if a weapons are available.  Wherever you are, there will likely be something you can pick up and hit him with.  Again, self-defense and the smart fighter know no rules.  Fight dirty!  Your life may be at stake.

Finally, always be aware of possible escape routes and don't hesitate to use them once an opponent is hurt bad enough not to follow.  These principles outline some major prerequisites for surviving a serious attack.  The hardest thing to do is to determine the degree of intent on the part of the assailant, once you have judged this, the decision is yours.  If you feel the threat is real, don't hold back, take the initiative and settle things.
