INTRO 2

Expression Web | Introduction to Expression Web 4.0

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

The Search Engine Optimization feature of Expression Web 4 is designed to help Web browsers improve the search-engine ranking of your site.

Although each of the major contemporary browsers has a proprietary (and highly secret) method for ranking Web sites, the search-engine ranking of a site is determined by several factors. The Microsoft Expression Web SEO checker helps you analyze the HTML code of your Web page to maximize the search-engine ranking of your site.

Among the HTML elements the SEO checker analyzes are the title tags, the page descrip- tion, the keywords, and the h1 heading element. When you create an Expression Web document, Expression Web automatically inserts certain HTML elements into the HTML code, but it is up to you, the Web page developer, to assign corresponding values to these elements. The SEO checker will see you have assigned values to these elements in the Page Properties. Figure 1 shows the result of an SEO check on an Expression Web document.
