Troubleshooting

Several tools are available to help you prevent some common, however infrequent, problems encountered with the daily operation of the SQL Server. For more in-depth information, please refer to the Microsoft Support Web site.

The following topics cover troubleshooting NetBackup for SQL Server:

  • Progress reports created for NetBackup for SQL Server on the client

  • Debug logging

  • NetBackup reports

  • Minimizing timeout failures on large database restores

Progress reports created for NetBackup for SQL Server on the client

NetBackup for SQL Server creates a progress report for each operation that has been initiated. This report contains summary information concerning the overall status of your job. The reports are contained in directory install_path\NetBackup\logs\user_ops\MsSql\logs and can be viewed by choosing File > View status in the NetBackup Database Client Graphical User Interface.

The progress report contains the following types of information:

  • the batch keywords and values which define the operation. See “Overview of batch files” on page 105 for information about the batch file syntax

  • summary information about the operation

  • information about the operation as it progresses

  • any error conditions or warnings that cause the operation to fail

  • the final outcome of the operation, whether it succeeded or failed and how long it took
