1899: BUSINESS: Liggett & Myers taken into Duke's Tobacco Trust. Duke has finally won
the Bull Durham brand of chew. Bull Durham is the most famous trademark in the world, giving rise to the term “bull pen” (from a Bull Durham ad painted behind the Yankees’ dugout), and “shooting the bull” (most likely from chewing tobacco). The bull was advertised all over the world, and even painted on the Great Pyramid of Egypt.
