complete his medical education. There he married Katherine Ann Roberts, daughter of and the only child of William Roberts of London, in 1772 at Newington near London. Elisha is listed as living in Charles Town, Dorchester Co in 1790. He is listed among the creditors in a deed dated 28 Jun 1798 that was filed for a settlement by Dr. David Ramsey in what then was a part of the state of Virginia but later became Ohio Co, KY; in Deed Book B. Elisha died in Boston.
7 - Joel Roberts Poinsett - 799 (1779 - 1851), son of Dr. Elisha Poinsett and Katherine Anne Roberts, was born in London. He was naturalized by a U. S. Senate act of 9 Mar 1783. Joel Roberts married Mary Izard Pringle - 800 24 Oct 1833 at the residence of Col. Eustis, Fort Monroe, Norfolk Harbor, VA; her first husband was John Julius Pringle. Joel Roberts died while on a visit at the home, Hillcrest in Santee near Sumter, SC, of his friend, Dr. William Wallace Anderson, and he and his wife are interred in the churchyard nearby. Joel Roberts' life and accomplishments have been detailed many times and will not be recounted here.

6 - Mary Poinsett - 793 (1748 - 1749), daughter of Elisha and Catherine, was christened at St. Phillip's in Charleston 7 Dec 1748.
6 - Joel Poinsett - 794 (1751 - 1788), son of Elisha and Catherine, was christened 13 Mar
1752 at St. Phillip's in Charleston. Joel's wife, Frances Batchellor - 804 (
from England. Their son, Joel Poinsett - 805 (
1782), died in infancy.
7 - Hannah Frances Poinsett - 806 (1781 - 1848), daughter of Joel and Frances, married Josiah Sturgis Lovell (1799 - 1820), who was the son of Christopher Lovell of Barnstable, MA, and Abigail Sturgis. Their issue was Edward Sturgis (b 13 Nov 1807), Anna Frances (3 Jul 1809 - 26 Mar 1872). Sarah Susannah (11 Aug 1811 - 19 Sep 1817), Roberts Poinsett (17 Aug 1813 - 7 May 1845), Christopher Samuel (3 Nov 1815 - 16 Aug 1868), and Susan
Elizabeth (24 Mar 1818 - 13 Jan 1892).
5 - Elizabeth Poinsett - 775 (1711 -
), daughter of Joel Poinsett and Susannah Varin,
is indicated in an LDS record as born in 1711, the same year as her brother Elisha, indicating they were twins. Their similar sounding names might also suggest this is the case. Elizabeth had three marriages: Samuel Fley, Capt. Edward Richardson (from the DuBois family), and John Hatten, the last when she was age 60.
