8 - Catherine D. Poinsett - 851 (1824 -

), daughter of Asa and Ann was baptized at 6

months on 10 Jun 1820 in the Asbury M. E. Church, Wilmington.

If this is the same

Catherine D. Poinsett listed in the 1850 and 1860 census, then she was born in 1824, not

  • 1820.

She is listed in the Asbury M. E. Church records as “joined on probation” on 3 Sep

  • 1838.

Catherine married Ezedkiel C. Kelly - 854 and had a son, William H. Kelly, born in

  • 1850.

She was living with her parents in 1850 and, thus, likely widowed.

8 - Charles W. Poinsett - 853 (1843 -

), son of Asa and Ann, and wife Lydia B.

Brumfield - 857 (1842 -

) are the only Poinsetts listed in the New Castle Co, DE,

census for 1870. He is 26, a conductor on the railroad, and she is 25, keeping house. Their son, Asa Brumfield Poinsett - 858 (1871 - 1892), is buried in the Wilmington and

Brandywine Cemetery in grandfather Asa's plot.

To my knowledge, there are no Poinsetts living in DE at present

.

This family, which

flourished and prospered in cities along the Delaware River, has no descendants there now, as far as I know.
