400 ac. from Henry Sanford. On 21 Oct 1881 he bought 108 ac. from Jonathan Barks. There are several records of sales and mortgages of real estate involving Thomas Gabriel, including a sawmill. 4
In the 1880 census, Thomas G., age 67, and Rosina, age 63, are living alone. His profession is listed as piano tuner. Thomas died in 1885 and was interred in St. John's cemetery in Leopold.
2 - Elizabeth Poinsett - 4 married George Turpin - 128 (a non-Catholic). Elizabeth Turpin was the sponsor at the baptism of Charles Moriarty Poinsett - 10 at St. John the Evangelist in Philadelphia. The Turpins had two daughters baptized at St. John the Evangelist, Hannah Cecilia Turpin - 129, born 10 May 1841 (sponsor Thomas G. Poinsett), and Josephine Turpin
130, born 6 Apr 1847 (sponsor Joanna Flinn).
The following list of baptisms from the records of the Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia suggests that the first Catholic in our lineage was Thomas Gabriel's mother, Rebecca. It is ironic that Huguenot descendants became Catholic. I list them in chronological order and indicate their relation to Thomas Gabriel Poinsett:
1837 Rebecca Poinsett (mother) 1839 Rebecca Ann Poinsett (first daughter) 1840 Rosina Poinsett (wife) 1841 Charles Moriarty Poinsett (first son) 1841 Hannah Cecilia Turpin (first niece) 1844 Thomas Francis Poinsett (second son) 1847 Josephine Turpin (second niece)
