April 30th

  • Run of the Charles Canoe Race – Waltham – 10:00am (Parrot Points Awarded)

The Charles River Watershed Association seeks to provide and enhance the health, beauty, and enjoyment of the Charles River and its tributaries. The Association holds an annual canoe race to raise funds and community awareness. We will be judges and safety people again this year at the Moody Street Dam in Waltham. Tailgate party at the finish line at Hereter Park in Boston. Bring your own food, grill, and beverages. To volunteer or for more information contact Kathy Werner at (781) 843-2773 or socialfins@yahoo.com or Terri Weissenberg at ragtoptt@aol.com Directions to the Moody St. Dam: Rte 128 to exit 26 “Rte. 20 East” Follow Rte 20 about 2 miles. In the center of Waltham, turn right onto Moody St. Please park in municipal parking lots. I will have directions to the finish line there.

North of Boston: Bennigan’s, Rte 1 Peabody. See Ernie and Ellie Fratangelo. West of Boston: TJ Spirits, Rte 135 Ashland. See Mark Hutchinson. West of West of Boston: Eddie’s Pub, Worcester. See Tamara Dower and Chris Yates. South of Boston: Castaway’s, Bridgewater. Rte 18. See Kathy Werner Cape: Bobby Byrne’s Pub, Rte 28 and Bearse’s Way, Hyannis. See Tony Avitabile and Michael Crowley.

May 5th – Cinco de Mayo Last year, Special Olympics reorganized their areas and combines many of their events into what I have begun calling them, “MEGA-EVENTS.” We can do it, they just will require a little more effort and coordination. But I know the Parrot Heads will rise to the occasion!!! It is possible that each of these games will be for 1000 – 1500 athletes, coaches, and volunteers. So, please volunteer, commit, and offer to help in whatever way you can!

May 6th – South Area Special Olympics Lunch, Brockton High School, Brockton, 9:00am (Parrot Points Awarded) We are cooking with gas! We’ll be serving up our world famous cheeseburger lunches for the Special Athletes, coaches, and volunteers. To volunteer, please contact Kathy Werner at (781) 843-2773 or socialfins@yahoo.com Directions: Rte 24 to Exit 17A (Rte 123 East) Follow about 1 mile. Turn right at the Friendly’s Restaurant into Brockton High School and follow around to the stadium.
