Effective patch management entails maintaining an awareness of system vulnerabilities and available patches for mitigation. Patches are periodically released for operating systems, office suites, commercial software tools and applications, and commonly used utilities.
Patches should be tested before deployment to a production environment to prevent adverse impacts to operational systems.
