The strategy is a definite attempt to ensure alignment between North West Provincial government and all its line departments as well as with the national departments.

Existing Arrangements for Co-operative Governance and Environmental Management

Oversight of the strategy is provided by the Provincial Inter Governmental Forum (PIGF) at political level and the PIGF Technical Committee at implementation level

Recommendations for Co-operative Governance and Environmental Management

The strategy must be reviewed in light of recent changes in laws governing natural resources, environmental management and environmental rights.

The review should include alignment to NEMA Principles and clarity on the manner in which implementation will comply.

The PIGF should be strengthened with technical representation from Environmental Management Directorate of DACE.

The plans of all Provincial Departments must indicate potential environmental affects and conformance to NEMA Principles and report these to the proposed Provincial Committee for Environmental Co-ordination.

The proposed Provincial Development Planning legislation will be aligned to environmental considerations.


Spatial Development Initiatives (SDI’s)


The North West has 3 Spatial Development Corridors of which one is declared. An east/west development corridor links up with the Maputo SDI and the route to Walvisbay
