Keeps feet apart with one foot slightly in front of the other.

Keeps back and neck straight.

Keeps knees and hip joints flexed.

Lowers body to a stooped position by keeping back and neck straight and bending knees.

Using proper body mechanics, grasps object.

7.

Lifts weight of object from the stooping position keeping back and neck straight, ensuring that the object is kept near the midline of body.

8.

Returns to a standing position while keeping back and neck straight.

REMEMBER:

Maintain the proper alignment of your head and neck with your spine

Maintain the natural curve of your spine; don't bend at your waist

Avoid twisting your body when lifting or carrying a person
