Washes hands and dons the appropriate PPE

Explains the procedure to the patient

Ensures that the bed brake is on

Adjusts the bed slightly higher than the height of the stretcher

Ensures that the stretcher brake is on

Lowers the head of the bed until it is flat and removes the pillow

7.

Move the patient’s legs closer to the edge of the bed and instruct patient to cross their arms on to the chest

8.

One person kneels on the bed, holding on to the draw-sheet at the shoulder and hip level, while the other grasps the draw-sheet from the side of the stretcher

9.

On the count of the three, slide the patient onto the stretcher

10.

Ensures the safety and comfort of the patient

11.

Removes PPE and washes hands using the appropriate hand-hygiene procedure

REMEMBER:

Maintain the proper alignment of your head and neck with your spine

Maintain the natural curve of your spine; don't bend at your waist

Avoid twisting your body when lifting or carrying a person
