Performs the appropriate assessment of the patient before beginning oxygen therapy; pulse, respiratory rate, respiratory pattern, skin color, pulse oximetry

Sets up the oxygen delivery device to be analyzed

Calibrates the O2 analyzer to room air (0.21 FiO2) – adjusts the analyzer’s display to read 21% as needed

8.

Calibrates the O2 analyzer to 100% oxygen by placing the O2 sensor in a bag that is being flushed with 100% oxygen – adjusts the analyzer’s display to read100% as needed

9.

Analyzes the FiO2 of the oxygen delivery device and adjusts the FiO2 being given to the patient as necessary

10.

Recaps the O2 sensor

11.

Correctly removes and disposes PPE and washes hands

12.

Ensures the safety and comfort of the patient before leaving patient's room

13.

Records relevant data in patient chart and appropriate departmental records, and communicates pertinent  information regarding patient’s clinical status to appropriate members of the heath care team
