MODULE 3.0 COMPRESSED GASES, REGULATING DEVICES AND PIPING SYSTEMS

General Objective:

Upon completion of the module, the student will be able to explain and demonstrate important features associated with identifying, transporting, and utilizing compressed gases.

Specific Objectives:

3.1Distinguish between gaseous and liquid storage methods

3.2Identify and explain cylinder markings, label information, and color coding for high pressure gas cylinders

3.3Differentiate between safety-systems used on high pressure gas cylinders of various sizes

3.4Properly transport and store/secure gas cylinders

3.5Select and mount the appropriate devices to regulate gas pressure and/or control flow during various clinical settings

3.6Using an "H" and "E" cylinder, given the pressure and liter flow, calculate the duration of remaining cylinder contents

3.7Assist in maintaining departmental records relating to cylinders

3.8Locate and explain the purpose of zone valves within the clinical facility

3.9

     Describe the working pressure of medical gas piping systems

3.10Identify the station outlets within the clinical facility and demonstrate how to properly insert the correct type flow meters and other respiratory equipment
