e Museum organized numerous events in 2007 ranging from
fund raisers to programs that introduced the Museum to people who might not otherwise visit. Highlights included the annual Mission Creek Gala, Going to Extremes, skillfully chaired by Board President Patricia MacFarlane. is event raised $260,000 enabling school
classes to visit the Museum for free. In June the Santa Barbara Wine FestivalTM
hosted 500 guests
along Mission Creek for an afternoon of wine tasting. e volunteer Museum League coordinated another successful ArtWalk in September where seven local artists’ works were featured as part of El Camino Realism.
In addition to events, the Museum is supported in part by the generosity of its members and donors. Our 5,339 members included 1,192 new Museum members in 2007. Corporations, foundations, individuals provided substantial support for operations, sponsorship of Butterflies Alive! and Grossology as well as of our many education programs.
Co-chairs Alexander Power, Glen Mitchel, and JJ Hollister along with a committee of volunteers led the effort to raise $1.8 million to build a new Bird Diversity Hall alongside the Bird Habitat Hall which will be refurbished. e campaign has moved well beyond the halfway point with gifts and pledges totaling $1.3 million.
