5.13

    Battery System:

The vehicle shall be supplied with a two (2) 12 volt battery system. Both the primary and secondary OEM batteries shall remain in place (under hood mount)..

5.13.1The battery system shall be wired in accordance with Federal Specification KKK-A-1822E per figure 5 drawing. The system must meet SAEJ541 for starter circuit voltage drop for heavy duty applications.  No exceptions will be accepted.

5.14

    Internal 12 Volt DC Power:

The patient compartment shall be furnished with a 12 volt DC, 20 ampere capacity, separately protected circuit, with one (1) cigar lighter style outlet and one (1) military style three prong outlet.  This circuit shall also include a (low voltage drop) "Schottky" diode to isolate medical equipment batteries from any electrical loads imposed by the remainder of the ambulance electrical systems.   The circuit shall be protected by a 20 amp manual reset style circuit breaker.

5.14.1The Schottky diode shall be heat-sink mounted with an inverse voltage rating of at least 45 volts.  It must also be rated to carry the maximum short circuit current until the circuit breaker opens.

    Master Module Disconnect Switch or Device:

This device or switch shall be located on the driver's compartment console and shall be backlit with permanent label.
