8.0VEHICLE BODY AND PATIENT AREA

8.1Body Accommodations:  

The ambulance body and patient compartment shall be sufficient in size to meet the requirements of paragraph 3.10.1 Federal Specification KKK-A- 1822E.  The interior layout shall be such that a technician can administer life support treatments to at least one person during transit.

8.2

Attendant Seating:  

Seating for the attendant shall consist of an adjustable contoured “high back” padded bucket seat with child seat and integrated seatbelt system.  Seat shall be gray in color.  Seat shall be mounted on an approved base and include a locking narcotic storage compartment.  Door shall be hinged on the bottom.  Door shall be on the occupants left side when seated.  Key shall be provided corresponding with the lock.

Patient Compartment Interior Dimensional Parameters:

The patient compartment of the ambulance shall meet the following minimum requirements:

Length:  Length measured from the bulkhead to the inside edge of the rear doors at the floor shall be at least 143”. There shall be at least 25 inches and not more than 30 inches of clear space at the head of the primary patient, measured from the face of the backrest of the attendant’s seat to the forward edge of the style 1 cot.

Width:  The width of the patient compartment, after the installation of the cabinets, shall provide at least 44 ¾” between the left wall and the face of the squad bench.

Height:  The patient compartment shall provide at least 66” of height over the primary patient care area measured from floor to ceiling.

8.4General Body Construction:  

It is the intention of these specifications to require that the ambulance modular body shall be all aluminum, all welded construction with a minimum thickness of .125. No rivets, screws, or other fasteners shall be used for the attachment of any structural member sheets.
