The role of Mobile Broadband will be affected by the scope of any associated coverage obligation associated with one of the lots. This may be very late in achieving the objectives for coverage, though it is anticipated that this may be influenced by mobile operators seeking to subsidise this rollout through winning a role in delivery under local broadband project procurements once they have secured the necessary spectrum. Mobile operators will need to consider solutions other than LTE until the outcomes of the mobile spectrum auction are known.
White Space, Femto Cells, WiMax and a host of other wireless/mobile technologies offer potential NGA solutions. BDUK is keen that potential suppliers exploit all technologies, as appropriate, to offering affordable next generation access solutions, but note that the technology roadmap is key to ensuring commercial sustainability.
