DONYETTA DRAKE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The Donyetta Drake Memorial Scholarship was established this year (2010) in memory of Ms. Donyetta Drake, a 1992 graduate of Albany State University. After receiving a B.S. degree in Management, Ms. Drake worked as a paralegal to support her future plans of attending law school. Though her life was cut short, Ms. Drake’s deep desire to help other people will live on through this

Donations to the scholarship can be made through the ASU Office of Institutional Advancement. Each year, a graduate or a graduating senior enrolled in ASU will be chosen to receive an award of $1,000 for their first year of matriculation in an ABA accredited law school
Citizenship / Permanent resident of the United States;
A graduate of or a full-time student who is currently enrolled in Albany State University and who is scheduled to graduate no later than Spring 2010;
Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale;
Submission of official university transcript(s);
Acceptance as a full-time, first year law student at an ABA accredited law school during the Fall Term immediately following the award;
Evidence of leadership skills and commitment to racial and gender equality as shown through volunteer work and extracurricular activities;
Three letters of recommendation: two from academic faculty and one from a community leader who can assess the applicant’s potential for success in law school and provide evidence of the candidate’s community involvement; and
A required essay (see below).
Each student applying for the Donyetta Drake Memorial Scholarship must submit a 500-word essay that demonstrates the applicant’s commitment to community service, justice, and the ideals of racial and/or gender equality.
