“HEARTS OF GOLD”
~ OUR VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH ~
I have been a volunteer at the Long Branch Senior Center since January 21, 1999. I usually volunteer my time on Thursdays working the front desk and greeting people as they enter with my cheerful smile. I enjoy working the desk because I like to assist them. I answer the phone at the desk and take various messages. I also take calls from people wanting transportation back and forth to the Center.
I am a member of the Senior Center Auxiliary Board and the Long Branch Active Seniors Club. I also do the sign ups for the various exercise programs and the many trips sponsored by the Center. Many times you can catch me at the desk checking off people or giving out the door prize tickets, as they come in for a party or picnic.
My late husband, Gene was a great advocate of the Center. He always attended the Tuesday/Thursday luncheons with many friends at the “In Good Taste” program.
I enjoy my volunteer job as I enjoy working with Pat and her Staff. I have a new companion, my dog lucky. He just sits and waits for me to come home from the Senior Center. He knows the time I come home and is always waiting at the door to greet me, wagging his tail.
I am proud to be a volunteer for the Long Branch Senior Center. It certainly does help to pass the time away while volunteering and helping others.
