Springtime In The Carolinas
Merlyn & Jo Dean Neel
April 16 - May 13, 2006
There are so many beautiful spots in the Carolinas at springtime, so where shall we begin this motorcade? How about Hilton Head? We’ll travel through the Island and give you insight into the fascinating history. You will see moss-draped live oaks and tidal marshes dotted with herons. A visit to Hilton Head isn’t complete without seeing Harbour Town, reminiscent of a Mediterranean seaside village.
Then it’s on to Charleston. Charleston lives her history. This magnificent city has been and continues to be preserved, restored, and protected. Its vast historic district is filled with tiny alleys, walled gardens, and stately homes that make it one of the most beloved cities in the world.
When you think of Myrtle Beach, you probably think of crowds, but let’s put that aside and concentrate on the special activities we’ve planned, like a Carolina safari Jeep tour. Jeep touring has the magic capacity to create a sense of adventure from the first moment. We will take a customized safari-style jeep tour which has it all: history, nature, ecology, and wildlife. This area is also well known for their entertainment and we will
found, where else, but in the furniture capital of the world, High Point. We’ll see actual production of wood flooring, as well as the world’s largest home furnishings retail store, which happens to be the length of 19 football fields!
Ever wanted to take a spin around a race track? Let us fulfill that dream at our next stop in Charlotte, home of Lowe’s Speedway. We will also take a “Taste of Motorsports” tour where we’ll see an array of famous race cars (past and present), visit the chassis shop where cars are being built, and visit a renowned motorsports artist. We will also have the opportunity to visit the corporate headquarters of Dale Earnhardt. The pit-crew training facility will prove most interesting as they demonstrate and explain the training and skill required to be a pit crew member on the race circuit.
We will end our trip in Ashville as we take in the sights and sounds of the area and have our final banquet at Grove Park Inn.
at a wonderful country club and the Alabama Theatre.
$200 will put you on the standby list for the motorcade.
All roads lead to the Crystal Coast and springtime is the perfect time to explore this gorgeous beach. The Crystal Coast stretches along the southernmost portion of the famed Outer Banks, from Cape Lookout National Seashore to Emerald Isle.

As we travel up the coast to Cape Hatteras, ferry to Ocracoke, and back into the interior, we’ll be watching for waves of color. The hillsides are alive with the blooms of spring. Here we’ll find antique shops, outlet malls, and famous Carolina bar-be-que.
The beauty continues and so do the trees. Think of it, all those trees make gorgeous furniture --
see you down the road… 19
