Magical Maritimes Motorcade
Tom & Elaine Nale
July 17 – August 30, 2006
The excitement is mounting as we prepare to begin this spectacular motorcade through some of the most beautiful, rugged, and interesting terrain you could ever imagine. For an unforgettable six weeks we’ll be traveling around the five Canadian provinces known as the Maritimes. The mighty North Atlantic will surround us almost the entire time, and we will be crossing it when we board a very large ocean- going ferry to make our way to Newfoundland and back again.
Can you imagine being in a place that was inhabited more than 1,000 years ago? You’ll have an opportunity to do just that when we visit St. Anthony, NF and Lanse Aux Meadows,
the original Viking landing site.
Here the Vikings
We’ll travel the Evangeline Trail for a distance and learn of the Acadian history that is so rich in Nova Scotia. We’ll visit *Grand- Pre’ and witness the story of the banishment of the Acadians in 1759. In Annapolis Royal we’ll take a “Candlelight Graveyard” adventure. This one is sure to interest all.
We’ll have time to visit Lunenburg and *Halifax and do a self-transport to Peggy’s Cove. Later we’ll cross the Canso Causeway onto Cape Breton Island and have an opportunity *via coach to circumnavigate the famous “Cabot Trail” and check out the incredible scenery. You may even see a few whales!
with costumed interpreters. We’ll a part of the Great Viking Feast as
be sure well.
There will be so many wonderful sights to see that we can’t possibly mention them all, but we’ll try to highlight a few. The motorcade will begin in Fredericton, New Brunswick, then on to Moncton, NB. Here in New Brunswick you will be awed by some of the most tremendous tides in the world in the Bay of Fundy. We will be viewing the tide at all different levels, hoping to catch the very lowest, and later the highest, so that you can see the remarkable difference.
While in Newfoundland, we’ll take a short ferry across the Strait of Belle Isle to Labrador for a day visit. Here we’ll *take a coach tour down the beautifully rugged coast to Red Bay and visit a sixteenth century world trade site.
Have we whet your appetite enough? This 43-day motorcade is one that you are not likely to forget. We have included quite a few meals and tours already in the initial price, and there will be additional optional meals and tours as well. If you would like to join us on this grand trip, call Beverly in the Motorcade Club office and put your name on the stand-by list today!
Leaving New Brunswick, we’ll traverse the Confederation Bridge onto Prince Edward Island and follow to Cornwall where our campground is located. We’ll be *touring the Upper Shore and visiting the real Green Gables historic home, as well as other attractions. Of course, a trip to PEI would not be complete without a visit to Charlottetown to see the famous play Anne of Green Gables at the Confederation Centre of Arts.
