The following Libertyville High School students were named November Students of the Month: Haley Pike, Patrick Regan, Lauren Dejon, Jacqueline Hong, Michelle Singapori, Wendy Springgate, Nicole Panega, Luke Wessel, Caitlin Hauerwas, Bailey O’Brien, Kyle Rawlinson, Sarah Smiley and Katelyn Hankins.
The following VHHS students were named October Cougar Class Act Award winners: Itzel Contreras-Mendez, Adam Corrado, Lindsey Gallagher, Michael Garcia, Elizabeth Haberstroh, E.J. Lannan, Zhenni Lin, Nicholas McAdams, Robert Malick, Becker Meylor, Jose Montoya, Vesselina Pentcheva, Gary Sawyer and Ally Thommes.
LHS has once again received a $500 grant from the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance program. This year’s grant will be used to support the LHS Math Team’s participation in competitions. John and Young Kim, owners of the Mobil Station at 1185 W. Park Ave. in Libertyville, worked with school officials to secure the grant which is one of 4,000 available to schools across the country served by Exxon or Mobil stations. The grants are made possible by funding from the ExxonMobil Corporation, and are designed to provide its retailers with an opportunity to invest in the future of their communities.
The LHS flag football all-star team was recognized on the field at half-time of the Chicago Bears home game on Nov. 9. The team won the 14th annual tournament sponsored by the Bears by defeating Waubonsee Valley High School in the championship game played in the Walter Payton Center at the Bear’s Hallas Hall. Members of the team, sponsored by John Fischl, are Captain Kevin Johns, Matt Easton, Matt Burns, Jeremy Letchford, Paul Aynilian, Kevin Steinhauser, James Simmons, Mike Styler, Spencer Aull, Troy Barton, James Farrugia, Dustin Bergstrum, Max Pickus, and Stu Andrews. Thirty-two teams were invited by the Bears to play in this single elimination tournament, and the Wildcats went 5 -0 this fall.
LHS custodial staff team members George Pantelopoulos and Lewis Jones were selected by their teammates in Buildings and Grounds as the Most Valuable Team Members for the Summer Quarter.
Superintendent Lea informed the Board of one FOIA request that was received and a response provided.
The Board discussed rescheduling the January Board Meeting to avoid a conflict with the Annual ED-RED Legislative Dinner Meeting. This will be brought back for Board action in December.
President Landgraf extended an invitation for general public comment, including a review of the three-minute guidelines. No comments were received.
