JD Energy is a coal and environmental forecasting firm founded in 1987 and located in Frederick, Maryland. JD Energy publishes a series of both short-term monthly forecasts designed for buyers and sellers in today’s markets, as well as long-term 30-year projections for strategic planning purposes. JD Energy also provides market assessments, contract consulting, mining and pollution control engineering, and transportation rate forecasts.
About the Authors
John Dean is the President of JD Energy and has over 30 years experience in the coal and environmental fields. He has directed JD Energy forecasting efforts since founding the company more than 18 years ago. He previously served as Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Energy for a Saatchi & Saatchi subsidiary, as Director of both coal forecasting and fuel procurement for DRI/McGraw-Hill, and has held various positions in the US Department of Energy including policy analyst, regulatory group director, and economist.
Ramesh Malhotra owns and manages the operations of Coal Network, which includes coal brokerage, coal blending services, river terminal operations and international trading of a wide range of products and services. Prior to beginning his firm in 1987, Ramesh was President of NERCO Coal Company. Ramesh has been actively involved in the energy industry for more than 30 years.
Lia Sareen conducted the basic research for this report and advised in its conclusions. She currently works at McKinsey & Company and previously worked for CashEdge, an internet financial firm. She received her MBA from the Sloan School of Management (MIT) and her undergraduate degree from Yale University.
