Sunday, July 19th found Balboa players at The Tennis Club, previously the Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club. In the future, watch for the new name at the old location. Even with many people traveling and in the middle of family events, a dozen dedicated players enjoyed the afternoon. Eight rounds of 4 games made for a great format. Dottie Kavanau and Janice Furman tied for first place with 18 games each. Doug Baker earned 24 games to place first with Wes Harvey taking a 2nd with 20 games. The winners received Breaker tickets to see Maria Sherapova. That’s a great prize! After play the group enjoyed liquid libations and potluck.

On a beautiful Saturday morning, the enthusiastic Balboa bike riders met at Nancy Slusher’s home for a mini breakfast and time to socialize. As we finally set out to ride, Joanne Seebach led the group to the Marina as the rest of us caught up. We made our way to the Belmont Shore beach bike path with vigorous chatter as we rode along. Regular riders included Suzanne and Norm Goldman, Barbara Jacobson, Janice Furman, Kathy and Doug Preble, Ed Murphy, and Nila Kyser. New members Connie, Dale, Ann and a friend came along too. Gretchen Bornhope and Betty & Don Stinson joined us; they are members of the Auslich ski Club. Rich Tonti tried out his new video camera throughout the ride. Hopefully he’ll let us see all the footage next time.
At Shoreline Village we rode out to the “point” to relax as we took in the beautiful views of the water and the Queen Mary. Our return was an easy ride. When we arrived at the Long Beach Yacht Club John and Reba Kramer, Rick Seebach and Bob Kyser were waiting for us.Dodie Stoto and Ken Kern of Auslich also joined us for lunch. All of us were surprised to find Darlene and Jack Quinn lunching at the yacht club. We had a great time catching up with their lives. Naturally we all lingered after our de- licious lunch, enjoying the beautiful views and terrific friendship.
