Swala Camp is located under majestic umbrella acacia trees at the southwestern part of the park. Each of the nine tents is raised on a wooden deck above the ground. The text book best lodge in Tarangire.
A small, semi-luxury tented camp located in the Tarangire Conservation Area to the East of the Tarangire National park in the line of the annual elephant migration corridor. A good choice for those on a budget.
There is no Serena in Tarangire though the Sopa provides a good alternative at this price and size bracket.
The parks of the west of Tanzania are particularly difficult (and expensive) to get to and are usually accessed by air from Arusha or Ruaha. Not recommended as a first time safari experience
On the shores of Lake Tanganyika this is the only park in Tanzania (the Gombe Chimps are rarely, if ever seen these days) where you have a good chance of seeing chimps in the wild. Mornings are spent chimp trekking and afternoons snorkelling in the lake.
One of two options on the shores of Tanganyika and slopes of the Mahale Mountains, this is a wonderfully elegant choice for accommodation, beautifully designed and positioned on the Kangwena Bay beach...great rooms…but not cheap!
Guide Price$950 *Recommended*
The second property on the shores of the lake. Not as smart or “original” as Greystoke’s, but offers a similar experience for less money. If this weren’t an issue then we would stay in Greystoke’s.
Despite its great size and its inherent variety of animal and birdlife, it is perhaps one of the most underestimated of all the Tanzanian National Parks. Katavi is similar to the Serengeti with vast plains as far as the eye can see, great herds of buffaloes and lion.
This permanent tented camp was the first in Katavi National Park and is our pick of the places to stay for both service and game viewing. Fantastic location and good, if not overly showy, rooms. Has some of the best guiding in east Africa and we regularly get fantastic reviews!
This is a small, luxury tented camp, located in a stunning wooded rise overlooking the plains of Katavi. With walking and driving a good choice to explore this awesome park!
