Monarch Baseball Team Earns Regional Appearance

The Methodist College baseball team wrapped up the 2001 campaign by earning the school’s 19th post-season appearance and posting a 29-17-1 slate. The Monarchs, who were ranked as high as 12th nationall , captured the school’s 13th Dixie Conference regular-season title. Dan Glies led the Monarchs with a .358 batting average while belting seven homeruns, as he was tabbed a First Team All-Conference selection. The 20-win season was the 22nd consecutive under Head Coach Tom Austin.

MC Softball Wraps Up 2001 Season With 29-16 Record

The Monarch softball team ended the 2001 season by posting its third consecutive season with 10 Dixie Conference wins as the Green & Gold posted a 29-17 overall mark.

Methodist was led by Julia Best, a 1st Team All-Region selection, and Adrienne Midgley as each batted an impressive .394 for the season. Head Coach Ron Simpson was voted Dixie Conference Co-Coach of the Year for the second time in the last three seasons.

Monarch Netters Sweep Dixie Conference Titles

The Methodist College men’s and women’s tennis teams made a clean sweep of the Dixie Conference this past season as the Green & Gold captured both regular-season and tournament titles. The men’s team finished the season 10-1 and earned the school’s seventh conference championship, while the women’s team, ranked No. 24 nationally, finished 13-2 and took its seventh DIAC crown.

Head Coaches Christina Mullin (men) and Dan Arnold (women) were both voted DIAC Tennis Coach of the Year. Twenty Methodist tennis players garnered All-Conference honors by reaching the DIAC tournament finals.

Methodist Track and Field Finishes Sixth at Mason-Dixon Conference Meet

The MC track and field team made history this past season by hosting the Monarch Track Classic, the first intercollegiate track and field meet held at Methodist in more than twenty years.

The teams wrapped up the 2001 seasons with sixth place finishes at the Mason-Dixon Conference meet. Nicky Jinwright was the conference champion in the women’s javelin, while Shawn Watkins set a new school record in the men’s javelin with a toss of 183’03”.
