First Convocation 2006

The First Convocation Ceremony of Daffodil International University was held at the Bangladesh China Friendship Convention Center on May 24, 2006. It was a stately gathering of a galaxy of distinguished guests, Vice-Chancellors, and Senior Government Officers, Professors from various public and private universities, parents and guardians, members of the Academic Council and Board of Governors, DIU. All graduating students and faculty taking part in the Convocation Procession were attired in gowns and hoods. The first convocation of Daffodil International University was commenced in the 5th academic year; it means the convocation held in the exact time of the academic calendar without any interruption. The Convocation Ceremony was divided into three parts:

i) Speeches

ii) Distribution of Certificates

iii) Cultural Function and Dinner.

Dr. M. Osman Farruk M.P, the Education Minister at that time presided over the ceremony and delivered his speech. In his speech Dr. M. Osman Farruk emphasized the need for the expansion of higher education and skilled manpower to meet the challenge of the Twenty First Century. Ms. Hua Du, Country Director, Asian Development Bank, attended the ceremony as Convocation Speaker and delivered her speech. She admired the educational development and economic growth of Bangladesh. Mr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, BOG, DIU presented his welcome address and congratulated the graduating students. Engr. Shahrin Islam Tuhin, Member, BOG, DIU conveyed his goodwill message to the learned audience. Professor Dr. Aminul Islam, Vice Chancellor, DIU addressed the graduating students and congratulated them on their academic achievement. He also expressed his hope that the students of Daffodil International University will be worthy citizens of our country.   

Certificates among the graduating students were distributed by Professor Dr. Aminul Islam, Vice-Chancellor, assisted by Professor M. Shahjahan Mina, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dean, Faculty of Business and Economics, Professor Dr. Lutfar Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Science and Information Technology. Two hundred seventy one (271) graduates received certificates, among them one hundred fifty eight (158) students from Faculty of Business & Economics and one hundred and thirteen (113) students from the Faculty of Science and Information technology.  The first valedictorian was Md. Moniruzzaman of MBA program and he received Chancellor's Gold Medal. Vice Chancellor's Gold Medal was received by Adnanuzzaman Chowdhury of MBA program. Computer Science graduate Mohammad Monzurul Ahsan received Founder's Gold Medal. Dean's Gold Medal of Faculty of Business & Economics was received by Sree Sujit Kumar Dutta of BBA program.
