Caledonian Orogeny

The second of the three orogenies that affected the margin of future eastern North America as the Paleozoic continents amalgamated into Pangea.

Involved the progressive closure of the Iapetus Ocean between Avalonia and Baltica (450 to 425 mya), Laurentia and Baltica (425 to 395 mya), and finally Avalonia and Laurentia (420 to 380 mya).
