his allowed Liebherr to catch up to its main competitors of heavy construction equipment: O&K, Demag and Poclain. T
The new excavator was assem- bled at the plant in Colmar, France and weighs in at 164 tons and is powered by two Cummins diesel engines, each producing 360 hp.
Face shovels ranging from 5 to 12 cubic meter capacity or back- hoe configurations with a capacity ranging from 4.6 to 11.5 cubic me-
ters where the attachment options for this machine.
To satisfy the ever increasing de- mands of the mining industry for filling the increased payload capa- city of their dump trucks, Liebherr answered with their 991 model.
Starting in 1980, the firm of Con- rad in Kalchreuth started to produ- ce the Liebherr 991 construction machine. The first series, built to a scale of 1:50 was soon followed by a improved version. The series of black beams on the rear weight was reduced from three to two, the placement of the railing on the right side was altered and the ex- haust stack was lacquered black, very impressive for a model from the 80ties when the track links were cast from plastic.
One of the first Liebherr 991 in 1:1 scale was delivered without tracks. It was equipped with a backhoe boom and bucket, moun- ted on stilts on a barge and used as a dredge!
