Rank insignia will be worn as illustrated in this section (page 24.) Insignia are separate and pinned on the epaulets for duty jacket and overcoat. They are slid on the shoulder flap for the Class B shirt, and pull-over sweater.
Rank worn on the beret should be centered on the patch. The rank of Colonel should have the eagle facing toward the right shoulder.
The VMI insignia is no longer an acceptable replacement for the VA on uniforms. On the Class B shirt:
Men: The “VA” will be worn on the left pocket flap of the shirt centered between the top of the button and the top of the pocket flap for men.
Women: The “VA” will be worn on the left side of the shirt parallel to the nametag.
On the Class A and Blues jacket:
Men: The “VA” will be worn 5/8 inch above the notch on both collars with the centerline of the insignia bisecting the notch, and parallel to the inside edge of the lapel.
Women: The “VA” will be centered on both collars, approximately 5/8 inch up from the collar and lapel seam with the center line of the insignia parallel to the inside edge of the lapel.
Men and Women: The “VA” is worn in the upper left quadrant of the black patch approximately 1/4 inch above the nameplate. (See illustration on page 16).
