Reasons for Turnover
Day Care Centers Table 10 below summarizes the reasons why day care center’s staff members might leave the center within the next five years. Centers were asked to report all reasons that apply. Better pay and benefits were significant concerns. This was indicated either directly as the reason for leaving or was indirectly indicated, as in “work in the public school system” or “go back to school.” Additionally, changes in life circumstance, such as moving to a different area, retiring, and staying home with their own children were other reasons reported for leaving the day care center.
